Afternoon in Pienza
The whole charming town of Pienza is a UNESCO site; what was Corsignano, Pope Pius II sleepy hamlet of a birthplace, became his very own ideal Renaissance town when he remodeled it in 1459 and named it after himself.
It’s compact and well-kept and every corner provides a photo-op. I parked for a couple hours to wander around and eat a hefty bistecca fiorentina at Townhouse Caffe, which was about as close as my wallet could get to La Bandita Townhouse hotel. There was a group of high school (or maybe college? it’s hard to tell when you get old) students sitting scattered about Piazza Pio II and in the Duomo, sketching the architecture.
